Opening Keynote

Terry Matthews,
Chairman, Mitel, March Networks, and Wesley Clover

Terry Matthews: Chairman, Mitel, March Networks, and Wesley CloverSir Terence Matthews is Chairman of Wesley Clover and also serves as Chairman of Mitel and March Networks, two companies active in developing Internet Protocol (IP) systems for enterprise applications. Prior to joining March Networks, he served as CEO and Chairman of Newbridge Networks Corporation, a company he founded in 1986. Providing leadership and vision for 14 years, Terry helped Newbridge become a leader in the worldwide data networking industry prior to its acquisition by Alcatel. Before launching Newbridge, Terry co-founded Mitel Corporation, a world leader in the design and manufacture of enterprise voice systems and products.

Terry is also the founder of Celtic House Venture Partners, an early stage technology venture capital firm with offices in Canada and the United Kingdom. He is majority owner and Chairman of two hotel & golf properties: The Brookstreet Resort in Ottawa, Canada and The Celtic Manor Resort in Wales, which was recently chosen as the venue for the 2010 Ryder Cup Golf matches between teams representing the USA and Europe.

Terry holds an honours degree in electronics from the University of Wales, Swansea and is a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical Engineers and of the Royal Academy of Engineering. He has been awarded honorary doctorates by several universities, including the University of Wales, Glamorgan and Swansea, and Carleton University in Ottawa. In 1994, he was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire, and in the Queen's Birthday Honours 2001, he was awarded a Knighthood.

Paul Kedrosky,
Executive Director, William J. von Liebig Center

Paul Kedrosky, Executive Director, William J. von Liebig CenterDr. Paul Kedrosky is the Executive Director of the William J. von Liebig Center in San Diego, California and a venture investor with Ventures West, Canada's largest institutional venture capital firm.

He currently sits on the board of Marqui Corporation, a marketing automation software company. Earlier in his career, Dr. Kedrosky founded the technology equity research practice at HSBC James Capel. As a highly-ranked technology equity analyst, he was involved in transactions which created in excess of a billion dollars in public market value. In 1999, as an entrepreneur, he financed and launched one of the first hosted blogging services, GrokSoup.

He writes a monthly column ("The Opportunist") for Business 2.0 magazine and has appeared on many media outlets, including CNN, CNBC, PBS Newshour, ABC Nightline, and the New York Times. He maintains a widely-read blog on technology finance and venture capital at paul.kedrosky.com that Fast Company calls one of the best on the web. His columns have also appeared in the Harvard Business Review, Economist, the Wall Street Journal, the Brookings Institute, and Forbes.

Dr. Kedrosky has a Ph.D. in business from the University of Western Ontario, an MBA in finance from Queen’s University, and an undergraduate degree in engineering from Carleton University.
